I have been married for six years and had been trying to conceive for five years without success.
I underwent two medical check-ups, including a hysterosalpingography, and everything appeared normal. Doctors repeatedly told us that we should be able to conceive naturally.
Under the eager expectations of my in-laws to have a grandchild, I took Chinese medicine for two whole years, tried various health supplements, and used all kinds of ovulation prediction methods—tracking basal body temperature, observing cervical mucus, and using ovulation test strips—but still, I didn’t even see a hint of pregnancy.
Because of financial concerns and my fear of injections, I tried intrauterine insemination (IUI) three years ago instead of IVF, but it was unsuccessful.
As I was approaching the age of advanced maternal age two years ago, with the encouragement of my friends, I decided to give IVF a try—so that I wouldn’t regret not trying everything I could.
During my IVF cycle, I retrieved 17 eggs, but only five developed into Day 5 blastocysts, all graded BC. After PGT-A testing, only one embryo was found to be chromosomally normal. The doctor suspected that my husband or I might have a chromosomal abnormality, leading to a high rate of embryo abnormalities, so we underwent a karyotype test.
The results showed that I had "balanced translocation," which was likely one of the reasons for my years of unexplained infertility—something that previous tests wouldn’t have detected.
After my egg retrieval, I also underwent a polyp removal surgery and took a month to recover. Then, in April last year, I transferred my only healthy embryo, and thankfully, I conceived successfully!
By the end of last year, I gave birth to a very healthy and adorable baby girl.
During these five years of trying to conceive, my in-laws’ eager anticipation placed immense pressure on me. Every month, despite all my efforts, my period arrived on time without fail. I often found myself crying alone in the bathroom, fearing that I would never have the chance to experience pregnancy. At times, I felt completely hopeless.
All the pain and struggles truly became a distant memory the moment I finally held my daughter in my arms…
I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Wei, Chi-Feng and the nursing team at GENE IVF in Banqiao, New Taipei City for their expertise, patience, and care. Thanks to their meticulous approach and professionalism, I was able to achieve success on my first IVF attempt!
